Text Menu for Preview Windows

Character Properties...
Displays the Character Properties box, which allows you to change the look of selected text as follows:
Character PropertyDescription
ColorTo change the color of selected text, you can either choose a color name from the drop down list or click the Pick button to choose a color from the Color Picker box. The color you select appears in the color box to the left. If you selected the color from the Color Picker box, the hexadecimal number that is used in the HTML to identify that color appears beside the color.
SizeTo change the font size of the selected text, choose a size from the drop down list. This list provides HTML font sizes 1 (smallest) through 7 (largest). Size 3 is the default, which is approximately equivalent to 12 point text.

Navigator only: Also provides font sizes "big" and "small". Big adds one point to the current font size. Small subtracts one point from the current font size.

StyleTo add special effects to the selected text you can choose any one or more of the following styles: bold, italic, strikethrough.

Navigator only: Also provides the following styles: subscript, superscript and blinking text.

Internet Explorer only: Also provides the underline style. This should be used with caution, however, to avoid confusion with hypertext links.

Font nameInternet Explorer only: To change the font of selected text, choose a font from the drop-down list of fonts supplied with Windows 95. Web pages are typically displayed in the Times Roman font, which is a serif font. For a different look, you might choose Arial, a sans serif font.

Marquee...
Available in Internet Explorer preview only. Marquees will only display when the page is viewed in the Internet Explorer browser. In other browsers, the text will appear, but be static.

Displays the Marquee Properties box, which allows you to format selected text as a moving marquee.

Marquee PropertyDescription
Marquee Background SizeType the desired width and height of the marquee in either percent of window or pixels. If left blank, defaults to width of the entire window and height of one line of text.
Space around MarqueeTo achieve a margin of blank space between the marquee and any adjacent text, type the number of pixels of blank space you want to the left and right of marquee, and the number of pixels of blank space you want above and below the marquee. If left blank, aligns surrounding text immediately adjacent to the marquee.
Text ScrollingType the number of milliseconds delay you want to occur between each movement of the scroll. Type the number of pixels you want the text to move with each scroll. If left blank, defaults to standard delay and movement amount.
Number of times to LoopSelect the number of times you want the marquee to display when the user visits this page: once; a number of times specified by you; or infinitely (as long as the user is viewing the page).
DirectionSelect whether you want the marquee text to move toward the left or toward the right.
BehaviorSelect whether you want the marquee text to scroll until it is completely out of sight; slide until the text reaches the edge of the marquee, remaining in sight; or alternate, so that when the text reaches the edge of the marquee, it bounces back and goes the opposite direction.
Background ColorSelect a background color for the marquee by clicking the Pick button and choosing a color from the Color Picker box. The color you select appears in the color box to the left. The hexadecimal number that is used in the HTML to identify that color appears beside the color. Be sure the text color will show up well against the background color you select. Also check that the text color will show up well on browsers that do no support the marquee, and thus will not display the background color.

Paragraph Properties...
Displays the Paragraph Properties box, which allows you to change the format of the current paragraph. The current paragraph is the paragraph which contains the text cursor or a selection. You need not select the entire paragraph in order to format it.
Paragraph PropertyDescription
StyleSelect the style you want for the current paragraph from the drop down list. Your options are: Normal; Headings 1 (largest) through 6 (smallest); Address (italicizes the paragraph); Formatted.
AlignmentSelect the alignment for the current paragraph:

Internet Explorer: Select default or centered.

Navigator: Select default, left, centered, or right.

Surrounding AlignmentIf the alignment of the current paragraph is "default", this paragraph may be effected by the alignment of surrounding text. This line indicates if surrounding text is aligned left, right, or center.

Indent Paragraph
Indents the current paragraph by one level each time you select this option. The paragraph is indented on the left with a flush margin, and is slightly indented on the right with a jagged margin.

Unindent Paragraph
Unindents the current paragraph by one level each time you select this option. For example, if a paragraph has been indented three times, you must unindent it three times to return it to the original margin.

List
Displays the List sub menu, which allows you to add lists of the following types or format existing text as one of these lists: ordered, bulleted and definition lists.

Ordered List
If nothing is selected, inserts an ordered (numbered) list at the cursor position. If text is selected, formats the selected text as the first item in an ordered list. You can select from the properties box whether the list is numbered with ordinal (1, 2, 3) or roman numerals (I, II, III,), or letters (A, B, C), and whether they are upper case (A, B, C or I, II, III) or lower case (a, b, c or i, ii, iii). You can also select the number at which the list will start, if not 1. Type an ordinal number (i.e. 7), and Web Factory will translate it to the numeral style (i.e. G or VII, etc.) you have selected. Each time you press the Enter key, the next numbered item is added to the list. To indicate the end of the list, click at the end of the last line of the list and press the Enter key twice in a row.

Bulleted List
If nothing is selected, inserts a bulleted list at the cursor position. If text is selected, formats the selected text as the first item in a bulleted list. For the Navigator browser, you can select from the properties box whether the bullets are discs, empty squares, or filled squares. The Navigator default is empty square. Internet Explorer supports only the disc. Each time you press the Enter key, the next item is added to the list. To indicate the end of the list, click at the end of the last line of the list and press the Enter key twice in a row.

Definition List
Inserts a new definition list onto your Web page at the cursor position. A definition list allows you to insert a "term" and then display its "definition data" in an indented paragraph below the term. (This page is an example of definition lists.) It is not necessary to select this option each time you want to begin a definition list, since a definition list is automatically created when you insert a definition term that is not in a definition list. Select this option if you want to insert a definition list inside of another definition list, thereby indenting the subsequent terms and definitions by one more level.

Definition Term
Inserts a new definition term onto your Web page at the cursor position. If the cursor is not inside a definition list, Web Factory will add the list. You can insert as many definition terms in a definition list as you like. Each definition term can contain as many words as you like, and can contain paragraph breaks and line breaks, if desired.

Definition Data
Inserts a new definition data paragraph which appears on the next line following the definition term. The paragraph is indented from the definition term and word wraps with a flush left margin. You can insert as many definition data elements per each definition term as you want. Each definition data can contain as many words as you like, and can contain paragraph breaks and line breaks, if desired. The main effect is to indent the paragraph from the left margin.

Note:
This page is an example of how definition lists, definition terms and definition data can be used. Each menu option is formatted as a definition term, and each indented paragraph explaining the menu option is formatted as a definition data element.

Remove list formatting from item
Removes the current item from the ordered, bulleted, or definition list. The text remains on the Web page, but is no longer part of the list. The prior list item, if any, becomes the end of the list. The following list item, if any, begins a new list.

Remove list formatting from entire list
Removes the list formatting from the text and elements in the list. Text and elements remain on the Web page, but are no longer displayed as a list.

Paragraph Break
Inserts a new paragraph at the cursor position in the Web page. Inserting a new paragraph leaves a blank line between the prior paragraph and the new paragraph. You can also insert a paragraph break by pressing the Enter key. Web browsers will not display more than one paragraph break in a row. So, for example, regardless of the number of times you press the Enter key in a row, only one line of blank space will be shown between two paragraphs.

Line Break
Inserts a standard line break at the cursor position in the Web page. Inserting a line break forces the following text or HTML element to appear on the next line. You can also insert a line break by simultaneously pressing the Control key and the Enter key. You can insert as many line breaks in a row as you wish, to gain vertical space on the Web page.

Clear Line Break...
Displays the Clear Line Break box, which allows you to insert a line break that forces the new line to begin only after the left, right, or both margins are clear of any elements such as images. You choose whether the new line is to begin where the left, right, or both margins are clear.

Checks the spelling of your Web page, informing you of possible errors and providing a selection of alternative spellings when possible. You can select an alternative spelling from the drop down list, or type the correction and click the Replace button. If the spelling is correct, click the Ignore button. Web Factory will inform you when the entire page has been checked.
